As one of the larger businesses in the Weymouth area, we take our responsibilities seriously. We employ around 40 people at our headquarters and it’s this great team of people who ensure your orders are processed and shipped as soon as possible. They keep our business going and we want to treat them with the respect they deserve.
That’s why we have joined the Living Wage Foundation and achieved UK Living Wage Accreditation. It’s a statement of our commitment that no one in our UK organisation is paid less than the independently-assessed living wage of £7.85 per hour. This is considerably higher than the National Minimum Wage of £6.50 per hour. (Figures as at May 2015.)
The importance of the living wage
We recognise that employment is a partnership. Our staff agree to work for us in return for an income they can live on. It’s an arrangement that benefits everyone, including you, our customer, because having an engaged, committed team running order processing, dispatch and our other departments, results in better service for you.
Paying the living wage also helps us to keep the costs of our products low, because, perhaps surprisingly, it reduces the overall costs of running our business. One of the biggest, yet often invisible, expenses for any organisation comes when someone leaves and needs to be replaced.
Our aim, and one of the reasons why we pay a minimum of the Living Wage, is to keep our staff happy so they stay with us longer. Every time someone leaves a business, the organisation loses all the knowledge they have gained. Then there are the costs of hiring someone new and training them up.
Keeping all these extra costs down means we can continue to give you the best prices on medical equipment.
Other benefits available to the Medisave team
There’s more to enjoying your job than being paid the right amount for what you do. Your day-to-day surroundings can affect your mood and your motivation. The Medisave UK team is based in a smart new, purpose-built office and warehouse on the edge of Weymouth. It’s light, bright and comes with the satisfaction of working in a carbon-neutral environment. The building is packed with green technology systems, from solar panels to ground source heat pumps.
But that’s not all. We’re always on the look out for other ways to make the team enjoy working here and these include:
- A new, large staff relaxation area with kitchen, sofas and a digital aquarium.
- New bikes that staff can use for lunchtime rides to the beach or into town.
- Profit-related quarterly bonus, with an equal split for all staff with over one year of employment.
We’re thrilled to have received UK Living Wage Accreditation because we want to keep rewarding a hard day’s work with a fair day’s pay.
