Medisave and Health Poverty Action - Joining Forces to Tackle Injustice

At Medisave, we are great believers in Corporate Social Responsibility. Basically, this means that as a successful company, we believe we have a moral obligation to give back to a global community that we are a part of. It is with this that we are delighted to announce our new partnership with the charity, Health Poverty Action.

Who is Health Poverty Action?

Health Poverty Action is an international NGO established in 1984 by a group of health professionals. From the very beginning, the charity has strongly believed in justice and developing strong community roots and health systems, all while addressing the social determinants of health. Health Poverty Action believes, "Health for all is a right not a privilege – a right denied to many by a global system stacked against them." To combat this, Health Poverty Action works with health workers, activists and communities worldwide to improve health, and challenge the causes of poverty. This is where Medisave are delighted to come into action. As part of our partnership, we plan to help raise awareness by raising money, promoting Health Poverty Action and their ongoing campaigns, and asking for support from our incredible customers and audience. We aim to show support by standing 'As One' and bringing as many medical professionals on board as possible.

Standing 'As One'.

'As One' is a campaign designed by UK health professionals who are unable to travel and support their overseas colleagues due to family commitments, jobs, and mortgages etc. This campaign is for those that despite restrictions, still want to stand 'As One', to support, strengthen, and share their expertise and knowledge with colleagues working in incredibly challenging circumstances. The best part is that they can do all of this from right here in the UK!

Anastacia Perez, Traditional Birth Attendant, Guatemala
"I have seen changes since Health Poverty Action’s training. If a Traditional Birth Attendant sees a danger sign in pregnancy, they now take the woman to the health post or hospital. Both sides are vital in reducing maternal deaths."

Here's what you can do to support the campaign:

  • You are welcome to provide a monthly donation to regularly support health professionals worldwide.
  • You could also donate the equivalent cost of going out for lunch or having a drink.
  • How about donating a medically related fee or item? Have an old stethoscope lying around? Contact Health Poverty Action!
  • Creative type? You could create educational content to be sold via the Medics Academy platform. Profits raised will be donated to the 'As One' campaign.
  • Download the Digitalis app where you can connect and follow your colleagues worldwide. You will be able to participate in group discussions and share your knowledge - potentially saving someone's life abroad, from the UK!
  • You could write a blog or be a guest speaker on the Healthcare Leadership Academy podcast to promote the campaign.
